Agilent Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:A) has announced that it has been granted a conditional antitrust clearance from the European Commission for it’s proposed acquisition of Varian, Inc. (NASDAQ:VARI). As part of the Commission’s clearance, Agilent must sell its laboratory gas chromatography, quadrupole gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry, and micro gas chromatography businesses. Both companies have initiated a process for the sale of the businesses, having already engaged a number of interested purchasers. The company reported that the aggregate fiscal 2009 revenues for the businesses were under $100 million. The companies are still waiting for US Federal Trade Commission clearance.
