Drug and Alcohol Rehab – CT - Mountainside hosted a week long addiction education and prevention series at its inpatient drug rehab center in Connecticut. Staff members and residents voiced their support and affirmed their dedication to making a difference in the fight against drugs and the compassionate treatment of addiction and alcoholism. Former residents and current residents banded together and shared their experiences , strength and hopes with one another in the battle over addiction and new freedom in recovery.

The case of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena highlights the violence and destruction most often associated with drug addiction. As an undercover DEA agent he fought to curtail the heroin, cocaine and marijuana trafficking through Mexico into the United States. On February 7, 1985 he was kidnapped in broad daylight and was later discovered dead on March 5th. Enrique is survived by his wife and their three sons. In honor of his life and dedication to the cause of fighting drug addiction and drug trafficking, the Red Ribbon Week was invented – it is now the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country.

Mountainside Treatment Center strongly supports multiple drug prevention efforts and through its extensive outreach programs and external affairs office, it regularly interacts with and donates to community organizations devoted to the cause of drug prevention and to the accessibility to drug addiction and alcoholism treatment.
