Islamists Stone Somali Man to Death for Adultery, Pregnant Girlfriend to be Killed after Giving Birth

A 33-year-old Somali man has been stoned to death by Islamists for committing adultery and plan to kill his pregnant girlfriend after she gives birth.

The stoning took place in the southern Somali port town of Merka where the Islamist fundamentalist group al-Shabab holds much of the control. While the man admitted before an Islamic court that he committed adultery the death sentence was heavily criticized by moderate Islamists who say al-Shabab have damaged the image of Islam.

Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh spoke out against the stoning carried out by al-Shabab saying “Their actions have nothing to do with Islam.”
