Canadian police say it is unclear whether two human body parts mailed to schools in Vancouver are linked to Luka Rocco Magnotta, the model and porn star who is suspected of murdering and dismembering an acquaintance and mailing his body parts to political party headquarters in Ottawa.
A package containing what appeared to be a hand was delivered to False Creek Elementary School on Tuesday. Another package containing what appeared to be a foot was sent to St. George's School. "The investigation is only a few hours old now, so I can't link it to anything," Vancouver Police Deputy Chief Warren Lemcke said.
Magnotta was arrested Monday at an internet café in Berlin, Germany. Police spokesman Guido Busch said a café worker recognized Magnotta and called authorities.
An international manhunt for Magnotta, 29, was launched after the Conservative Party headquarters in Ottawa received a severed foot in the mail on May 29. A note in the package indicated five other body parts had been mailed. A severed hand addressed to the Liberal Party headquarters was recovered at a post office later that day and a torso was discovered in a suitcase outside Magnotta’s apartment building on May 30.
Canadian police identified the murder and dismemberment victim as 33-year-old Concordia University student Jun Lin. Lin was last seen on May 24. His murder was taped by Magnotta and posted online under the title “1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pic.” The video reportedly shows Lin being stabbed repeatedly while tied to a bed. Magnotta then dismembers the body and performs cannibalistic acts.
